St. Benedict's, Haltham-on-Bain, is of greenstone patched with brick. The south doorway has a Norman tympanum and roll-moulded arch.

The east window is excellent Decorated style. Inside there is a royal arms of Charles I.

This is a country church full of character.

Kelly's Directory of Lincolnshire 1919 states :-

"The church of St. Benedict is an ancient edifice of stone, in the Early Norman, Early English and later styles, consisting of chancel, nave of three bays, north aisle, south porch and a low wooden belfry on the western gable containing 3 bells:

the south doorway is Early Norman, the next earliest feature being the Early English arcade:

the chancel, restored in 1880, is Decorated throughout, the east window being a remarkably fine specimen of the style, with elaborate tracery in the head :

in the jamb of one of the windows is a curious recess, with a little pillar at the angle, serving as a canopy to a piscina within:

there are also three sidilia, an aumbry and two brackets:

the nave was restored in 1881, and the total cost of both restorations amounted to £57I 12s. 6d.:

there are 140 sittings:

in the churchyard stands the base of an ancient cross.

The register dates from the year 1561.

The living is a discharged rectory, united with that of Roughton, joint net yearly value £300, including 383 acres of glebe, in the gift of and held since 1913 by the Rev. Henry Cecil Marriott Spurrier M.A. of Pembroke College, Oxford, who resides at Roughton"

White's History, Gazetteer & Directory of Lincolnshire, 1856 states :-

"HALTHAM-UPON-BAIN, a small village in the pleasant valley of the river Bain, 4.5 miles S. of Horncastle, has in its parish 243 souls and 1395.A. 3R. 19P. of land, including 232A. of fen and 238A. of  woodland.

The Hon. Sir Henry Dymoke is lord of the manor, but a great part of the soil belongs to Sir J. H. Hawley.

The former is patron of the Church (St. Benedict,) which is a discharged rectory, united with Roughton, valued in K.B. at £8. 11s. 1d., and now at £401, in the incumbency of the Rev. John Dymoke, of Roughton Hall.

The tithes of this parish are commuted for about 190 acres.

The church is an ancient structure, which has suffered much from the hand of time, but has still some fine tracery in its east window.

Here is a Wesleyan Chapel, built in 1853.

The poor have the interest of £5, given by John Dymoke many years ago"

Fragment of stained glass with text appearing to read 

"MORS IVA VITA MEA"

This means "Your death, my life", and refers to the crucifixion (and resurrection) of Christ giving us eternal life.

The crowned pillars shown on either side are thought to be from an achievement of arms* and date from C17th.

* Records show that there were once a number of shields in the chancel window glass, showing the arms of Marmion, Dymoke and Hillary.
